RE Musicians selected for University of Miami Honor Band

Five members of the RE Symphonic Band have been named to the University of Miami Frost School of Music South Florida Honor Band. Named to the band are: Gavin S-V. '14, Percussion, Max W. '12, String Bass, Diego A.'13, Tenor Sax, Emilio L. '13, Trumpet, and Jamie H. '12, Flute. In an interesting serendipity, this year marks both the 30th Anniversary of the UM festival and the 15th year of participation for RE Symphonic Band members. Following last year’s retirement of long time UM Band Director Dr. Nicholas DeCarbo, the festival will now be run by UM Electric Bass Professor and Chair of Music Education Don Coffman. The guest conductor for this year’s festival will be Eric Rombach-Kendall, director of Bands at the University of New Mexico. High school students from throughout South Florida will audition and be placed in a 52 member Wind Ensemble or a 100 member Symphonic Band. The final performance will be Saturday, February 11, at 7:30 pm in the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall on the UM campus. Also performing on the program will be the UM Frost Wind Ensemble. There is no charge for admission but attendees should plan to arrive early as the hall is typically standing room only for these concerts.
