Senior leads girls' cross country to Orange Bowl victory

Beatriz Ruan '17 led RE's girls' cross country team to first place among 14 teams from South Florida at the Junior Orange Bowl Invitational Sept. 23 at Larry & Penny Thompson Park. Ruan finished second overall among 127 girls in the high school 5K run with a time of 19 minutes, 46.96 seconds.
Three fellow Raiders finished in the top 15: Hannah Tacher '18 (21:14.00), who claimed ninth, Claire Irigoyen '19 (21:14.44), who got 10th; and Fernanda Garcia Moreno '21 (21:31.59), who finished 14th. John A. Ferguson High placed second, Miami Northwestern third and Miami Palmetto, fourth. 

The girls' junior varsity team won second place in the JV division, finishing behind only John A. Ferguson High. The JV team was led by Maia Gold '20, who finished third in 23:36.34; and Maria Montalvo '20, who got fourth in 23:45.38.
