Math teams score big in Tallahassee

Ransom Everglades earned top-five finishes in calculus and statistics as the school claimed eighth-place overall Jan. 14 at the Chiles Invitational, a major Florida Association of Mu Alpha Theta math competition. The calculus team of John Mistele '17, Joon Kim '17, Timmy O'Brien '17 and Eric Cai '17 finished fourth, and the stats team of Guillermo Wenrich '17, Ryan Tie Shue '18, Patrick Visan '17 and Pancho Cabrera '17 got fifth.
All 31 RE students who made the trip to Lawton Chiles High School in Tallahassee contributed to the eighth place, which represented the school's best finish ever in the team sweepstakes. The students, who competed in statistics, calculus, pre-calculus, geometry and algebra II, train under math teacher Karen Key. This was the season-opening competition for the math team.
