Welcome to the Advancement Office at Ransom Everglades School.

As with all independent schools, Ransom Everglades relies on charitable support from parents, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni and friends in order to meet its mission. It is part of the Ransom Everglades culture, established by our founder Paul Ransom, who believed that independent schools existed to train the leadership of tomorrow, to create a class of citizens who would be more interested in giving to their community than taking from it . Ransom Everglades actively seeks philanthropic support, because the beneficiaries are not just the students whom we educate, but the community in which we live and the society they ultimately serve. We believe our role, which is to enlist your support for the school, is a necessary and noble one.

As a result of generations of generous support from parents, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni and friends, Ransom Everglades is one of the top independent day schools in the country. It is a source of pride for alumni, satisfaction for parents, grandparents, parents of alumni, and above all a good education for its students.

We are here to assist school and to support your efforts in helping the school fulfill its mission. If you have any questions or if we can assist you in any way, please, do not hesitate to contact us at (305) 460-8820 or send an email to crbutler@ransomeverglades.org .

Charitable Support

There are many traditions and benefits at Ransom Everglades School, and it is our philosophy that families, not just students, accept and become part of the Ransom Everglades community when a student enrolls. But with those traditions and benefits there comes certain responsibilities. The facilities that our students and parents enjoy today were funded by those individuals who understood that honor and excellence comes at a price. They embraced the tradition and need for charitable support, fully understanding that their children might not benefit from their gift, but regardless answered the call.

It is often said by our alumni that they make their best friends for life at Ransom Everglades School. Our parents also experience that same fellowship with other parents during their tenure at the school. For the school to continue to thrive in this very competitive market our community must embrace the tradition of charitable support.

The very foundation of independent education in America is charitable support, be it Harvard College in 1636 or thousands of pre-collegiate schools established since then. Operating without tax support or profit, the independent school is sustained by the good works and charitable resources of the community it serves. Charitable support is an integral part of the tradition and culture of an independent school.

Charitable support is also part of the American tradition. Today it is national policy to encourage charitable giving, and the federal government surrenders part of its tax income by allowing such gifts to be deductions from taxable income.

Thus, charitable giving is an American tradition, an educational tradition, an independent school tradition, a Ransom Everglades tradition. It is part of our culture and heritage. It is part of how we are able to provide our students excellence and honor in our classrooms, at their activities and on our athletic courts or fields. It is how we keep our tuition at a level which keeps our student body a reflection of our socio-economically diverse world. It is part of who we are and who we teach our children to be. At Ransom Everglades, charitable support is not just what we need, or what we do; it is what we teach, because it is our founding principle.

Of all the wonderful traditions associated with Ransom Everglades School, we take special pride in the tradition of charitable support to our school from dedicated Ransom Everglades parents, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni, friends, and faculty. As an independent school founded more than 100 years ago, it is this tradition of giving that has consistently enabled Ransom Everglades School to remain at the forefront of academic excellence.
