At Ransom Everglades, cooperative effort by members of a group in order to achieve a common goal is demonstrated in every aspect of school life. Students, teachers, coaches, counselors, parents and alumni all contribute to this philosophy of positive collaboration.

THE PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE EXTENDS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM AT RANSOM EVERGLADES.
From its inception, the Ransom Everglades community has always made a priority of nurturing sound bodies to support healthy minds. Traditionally, after a week of study, founding headmaster Paul C. Ransom would embark on weekend sailing expeditions with his students. Today’s Upper School campus is situated directly on Biscayne Bay, and a private marina accommodates the Raiders’ flotilla of canoes, kayaks, water safety equipment and sailboats used by the school’s nationally ranked sailing team.

Coaches strive to integrate the values exemplified by teamwork into the fabric of the students’ daily lives. In addition to boating on Biscayne Bay, Ransom Everglades teams travel throughout the state and across the country to participate in competitions and championships. The school offers a wide range of athletic opportunities with over 70 teams among 18 interscholastic sports. All of the school’s athletes enjoy unparalleled support from their peers, teachers, parents and coaches.

The school’s athletic program fosters far more than technical excellence and physical fitness. Ransom Everglades’ goal is to cultivate scholar athletes. Eighty-six percent of our athletic teams are coached by our faculty, who reinforce the values of teamwork and sportsmanship. The notion of pride, camaraderie and respect are integral to the school’s athletic program. Over 90% of the student body participates in team sports. All students have the opportunity to become involved in the sports of their choice, regardless of prior experience.

COACHES DIRECTORY

The Middle School has its own football field, baseball field, tennis courts and volleyball and basketball courts. The Upper School gymnasium is used for Middle School athletics as well. The Student Activities Center, located at the Upper School overlooking Biscayne Bay, is a $4 million multipurpose complex. Within its 30,000 square feet is the Harry H. Anderson Gymnasium, which seats 1,000 avid Raider fans at any given event. Used for sports and special activities, the gym includes two full-sized basketball courts and volleyball courts. The lower level houses a multipurpose/wrestling room, locker rooms, a fully-equipped physical therapy and training room, a weight room and athletic administration and coaches’ offices.

Adjacent to the Student Activities Center is an outdoor AAU-sanctioned pool where practices, games and meets are held for Ransom Everglades’ outstanding swimming and water polo teams. The pool has eight lanes, a diving well and seating for 250 enthusiastic spectators. The pool overlooks four professional surface tennis courts, and beyond the tennis courts is Robert E. Walker Field. Attending a game at Robert E. Walker Field is truly unique. Student Sports magazine named Walker Field the second most unique place in the country to watch high school football. Sitting in the bleachers among 800 cheering fans with a view not only of the game being played, but also of Biscayne Bay, which constitutes the boundaries of the field, is a singular experience. Each time the crew or sailing teams head out to retrieve footballs floating in the bay as the school celebrates a successful field goal or extra point, one is reminded of the incomparable tradition each student is a part of at Ransom Everglades.
