The Induction dinner was held on April 19, 2007 in the Pagoda. Each recipient was surrounded by friends, family and coaches as they were honored and remembered for their athletic contributions and leadership during their high school years at Ransom Everglades, and in some cases beyond RE. Athletic Hall of Fame Coach Mike Stokes led the guests through an evening of memories and athletic accomplishments. Each honoree was asked to name a presenter who speaks on their behalf
Scott Shaw '78
Scott Shaw was inducted in absentia and will be honored at a future Athletic Hall of Fame dinner.
Bradley A. Weiser '78 - Presented by brother, Warren Weiser '77

Brad's athletic prowess was demonstrated very early in his athletic career at Ransom Everglades when he set the state record for the 13-14 year old division in the discus throw in 1975 for the Ransom Athletic Club. It was also the tenth best throw in the country's AAU division that same year. During his athletic career at RE he was a multi-year varsity letterman in the four sports. A remarkable achievement given there is only three athletic seasons, but that speaks to his athletic prowess. These sports included: Football (4 years), Basketball (4 years), Track (4 years) and Baseball (4 years). It was his football play that received the most recognition. During his years of play he received numerous awards including: 1976 RE Outstanding Lineman, 1977 RE Unsung Hero, 1978 RE Outstanding Back, 1978 RE Most Valuable Football Player, All Dade County Football in 1977 and 2nd Team All State Football in 1977.
Brad attended the University of Denver majoring in Hotel Restaurant Management and is currently the Chairman, CEO and Founder of Café Tu Tu Tango restaurant chain and the Tango Group. He has been a member of the RE Board of Trustees since 2002 and is the current Co-Chairman of the Inspiring Dreams, Changing Lives Capital Campaign. His families' athletic legacy continued with daughters Blaire '06 (Volleyball & Softball) and Dylan '07 (2007 RE Top Female Athlete Award for Volleyball and Basketball).
Tracy Nan Smith '92 - Presented by Owen Paris
An all-around athlete, Tracy varsity lettered in five RE sports that included: Swimming (4 yrs), Softball (3 years), Water polo (1 year), Soccer (1 year) and Sailing (2 yrs). Her passion and accomplishments in sailing led to national recognition. During her time at RE she was the 1989 & 1990 Optimist World Championship - 2nd female overall and in 1992 she was the ISAF Youth World Championship - Gold Medal Women's Double handed class. Her sailing career continued to flourish after RE with her being named a 4-time collegiate All American, the 1993 & 1997 - ICYRA Women's Collegiate Nationals- 1st place A division skipper, 1996-1999 Member US Sailing Team, 1996 & 1999 - US Olympic Trials - 3 rd Place Women's 470 class and 2000 Pre-Olympic Games in Sydney- Silver Medal Women's 470 class.
She has also participated in the 2004, 2005 & 2006 Save the Bay Swim (1.7 mile open water distance swim).
Linda Wennerstrom Nunez '94 - Presented by Ed Nunez '92
Once again, another all-around multi-sport RE athlete, Linda varsity lettered in three RE sports that included: Volleyball (4 yrs), Basketball (4 years) and Sailing (3 yrs). She was a member of the 1990 Volleyball State Championship team and received national acclaim for her sailing expertise that included: 1992 IYRU Nautica Youth World Champ., Portugal (1 st Place), 1995 US Sailing Team Member, 1996 US Sailing Team Member-470 Women's World Championship, Brazil (6th Place) & 470 Women's US Olympic Team Trials (3rd Place), 1998 US Sailing Team Member, 1999 Europe Dinghy Olympic Team Trials (8th Place), 2001 US Sailing Team Member-470 Women's World Championship, Slovenia (6th Place), Yngling World Championship, Rhode Island (8th Place), Adams Cup Championships (1st Place), Yngling North American Championships (1st Place), Rolex Miami Olympic Class Regatta (470 women) (1st Place), 2002-Yngling World Championships, Switzerland (6th Place) & Rolex Miami Olympic Class Regatta (470 women) (1st Place), 2003 US Sailing Team Member & 470 Women's US Olympic Team Trials (4th Place).
Coach Penny Matthews - Presented by Amy Sayfie '93

Penny is honored for her contributions to RE Volleyball. During her tenure as Head Girl's Volleyball coach from 1988-1999, she accumulated the following win loss record 238-130. Additionally, her teams earned eight district titles, a semi-finalist title in state, two state runner-up titles and the 1990 State Championship. Additionally, she started the Boy's Varsity Volleyball program in 1997 and as Head Coach until 2004. More than a half dozen of Penny's players went on to play volleyball at the collegiate level and several have returned to RE as assistant coaches.
Currently, Penny is the Chair of RE's Physical Education Department and teaches canoeing, kayaking and life skills daily to RE students. Penny is also the ninth grade Academic Dean responsible for academic development for our new upper school students.
