Ransom Everglades has a rich significant history, a pioneer heritage of college preparatory schooling in South Florida and the nation.

Our archives collect all kinds of materials of historical, legal, socioeconomic and cultural value which reveal the operation and activities of the four schools: Adirondack-Florida School, Ransom School for Boys, Everglades School for Girls, and Ransom Everglades School.

For example: Some of you may not know that the school started out as a camp named the Pine Knot Camp from 1893 until it became known as a school in 1903 and was then called the Adirondack-Florida School.

Our mission is not only to collect but to preserve what we have and what we expect to acquire. This is made possible by the generosity of the Gaines R. Wilson family who helped fund the archive suite of rooms on the second floor of the upper school library.

The corollary to this collection policy is to promote the use of these research materials among students, faculty and members of the school community. The Archives played a major role in preparing for the one hundredth anniversary of the school in 2003.  It continues to collect materials for future generations.
