RE crew gets third at states

RE crew finished third in the boys' varsity quad at the 2019 Florida Scholastic Rowing Association Sculling State Championships in Sarasota April 13-14, as Andres Segrera '19, Aston Craft '20, Jackson Bryan '20 and Will Mathes '19 just missed second place in a gripping final race against The Bolles School. The team is petitioning for a spot at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America national championships.
The boys' quad highlighted a strong showing for RE at the state event. In the girls' freshman double, Mollie Forand '22 and Amelia Fox '22 earned seventh place in the A final. In the girls' lightweight double, Isa Ciocca '20 and Ashley Nguyen '20 won the B final. In the girls' junior double, Julia Buckner '20 and Alessia Gangone '21 won the C final. In the boys' lightweight double, Sebastian Arguello '21 and Rohit Yavagal '21 earned fourth in the B final. In the boys' junior double, Felipe Campano '21 and Ryan Ellison '20, placed fifth in the B final.

All of the athletes were led by coach and program director Tim McAllister.

In the Miami International Regatta on April 6, RE got podium performances from its high school boys' quad and double, and saw two middle school teams garner top finishes. Segrera and Mathes finished first among schools in the boys' double (second overall) and boys' quad (third overall) along with Craft and Bryan. Craft and Julien Bacon '20 were third among school in the boys' double.

RE competed against 13 clubs or schools from across the nation and the Bahamas at that event.

Middle schoolers Thomas Segrera '23, Colin Ehrling '23, Santiago Sauceda '24, Ryan Berkshire '23, Veronica Kerr '23, Katherine Serra '23, Gabriela Martinez '24, Mason Signorello '23 and Camille Lugo '24 won first in the mixed eight, and Kerr, Isabella Leiser '23, Ysatis Jadotte '23, Martinez, Jaylen Toomer '23, Sofia Wolf '23, Malena Tewari '23, Serra and Ella Lombardo '24 earned first in the girls' eight.
