RE teams grab awards at VEX IQ events

Two REbotics teams from the Middle School won top awards at the VEX IQ Robotics Tournament on the Everglades Campus on Feb. 10, with the all-eighth-grade team of Pablo Rodriguez-Russowsky ’23, Victor Perez ’23, Luca Trebotich ’23 and Diego de Lope 23 earning the Excellence and Teamwork Awards as well as an automatic bid to the state championships in March. The all-seventh-grade team of Joseph David ’24, Varun Raju ’24, Erick Gross '24, Myles Heller '24 and Daniel Figueroa '24 won the Amaze Award.
RE's sixth-grade team of Mateo Heitner ’25 and Joey Buttrick ’25 also excelled, finishing in third place in the Teamwork category. The teams were led by robotics coach Gus Palacios, who also directed the event.

At another VEX Robotics Competition at Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School on Feb. 17,  RE's  Upper School Transformers team – represented at the tournament by Daniella Sanchez '21 and Jonah Bennett '21 – won the Sportsmanship Award. Max Swietelsky '21, Jordan Hoffman '21 and James Srebnick '21 were not in attendance but participated in robot design under Upper School robotics director Bob DuBard.
