Girls' water polo wins 14th straight district title

RE's girls' water polo team defeated Coral Gables 19-2 to win its 14th consecutive district title on April 9 as nine players contributed goals in the championship game at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. The boys' team finished as district runners up, winning their semifinal over Columbus High before falling 13-10 to Belen Jesuit in its home pool in the title game. RE math and computer science faculty member Eric Lefebvre coached both teams.
For the girls, Emanuelle Dooreck-Aloni '20 scored four goals with one assist and one steal. Meredith Hutchinson '20 scored three times and contributed an assist and a goal. Sarah Mesa '20 scored once and had one assist and five steals. Grace Waibel '19 scored twice and had one assist and four steals. All 18 Raiders played at least one quarter. With the victory, the girls advance to face Gulliver Prep in a regional semifinal on April 17 at Gulliver.

For the boys, Nico Valls '20 scored five goals and had two assists and two steals in the championship game, as Lucas Gomez '21 added two goals, three assist and two steals. Valls scored 10 goals to lead the Raiders to a 17-8 victory in the district semifinal as Perry Samimy '20 dished out nine assists and grabbed four steals. The title game was the last for the boys, who said good-bye to seniors Justin Lopez '19, Lorenzo Prattico '19, Winston Lam '19 and Matias Vallejo '19.
