RE to offer scuba certification

Ransom Everglades will offer a PADI Open Water Diver scuba certification class for students at the Ansin Aquatic Center and onboard RE boats. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays in October (Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27). Students interested in earning their scuba certification must commit to each of the classes, and should sign up by emailing Dr. Kelly Jackson. Students must be a minimum of 12 years old and comfortable swimming.
The cost is $625 and includes instruction, boat dives, a textbook, dive slates, a certification card, DAN scuba diving insurance, and rental gear (BCD, regulator, weights, dive computer, tanks). Each student will need to supply his/her own mask, snorkel, fins and surface marker buoy.

Dr. Jackson, who began offering student scuba certification during the summer, will also begin leading scuba “fun dives” with Grove Scuba in November and December open to any certified divers in the RE community (students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni), and offering parent certification and refresher courses. PADI advanced certifications and specialty courses will be offered in the near future.

Thirteen children participated in Dr. Jackson's scuba summer camps. Please contact Dr. Jackson for additional information about scuba at Ransom Everglades.
