RE speech and debate wins three firsts at home event

RE speech and debate students triumphed at the first state qualifying speech and debate event ever held at Ransom Everglades. Three RE teams claimed first place at the Feb. 3 Florida Forensic League Art Deco Regional Tournament, which also saw faculty member Kate Hamm win regional coach-of-the-year recognition and more than 20 RE students earn bids to the March 2-3 FFL Varsity State Championship in Orlando.
Brianna Kerr '19 and Marly Rywell '19 finished first in Public Forum Debate; Zoe San Martin '20 got first in Congressional Debate; and Henry Schermerhorn '19 won top honors in Humorous Interpretation of Literature. Nine RE teams earned podium finishes. The top seven finishers in each discipline qualified for the state championship.

Hamm organized the tournament, which took place throughout the Middle School campus, with the assistance of countless parents and volunteers.
