    RE announces new Head of Upper School

    Dear Members of the Ransom Everglades Community,

    I am pleased to introduce Patricia Sasser, who will assume the role of Head of the Upper School at the conclusion of the 2018-19 school year. Patricia will replace Kenneth S. Mills, who is departing Ransom Everglades to become Head of School at the Gifft Hill School in St. John, V.I. We will miss Ken’s contributions as a scientist, teacher and administrator, but we are very excited to welcome Patricia to our team.

    Making the right course requests for 2019-20

    Upper School curriculum nights, the unofficial kick off of the course selection process, happen next week. How do you know which course requests are best for your child? If you search the internet, you will find more advice than you need. A recent op-ed in The New York Times by Thomas Friedman suggested that studying computer science and the U.S. Constitution often results in success in college and life. The comment section lit up. For many – including this reader – the piece was an over-simplification of a very complicated issue: how best to prepare our children for college and life.

  • Organic Valley CEO shares his journey from RE

    George Siemon, Ransom School Class of 1970, returned to campus to visit Jen Nero's AP Economics classes and share his journey from our school on the bay to his current position as CEO of Organic Valley, the largest farmer-owned cooperative in the world. George also returned to Coconut Grove to reconnect with a place that he credits with much of his formation as a scholar and leader. You most likely have seen Organic Valley products in the supermarket; next time you find yourself pondering which carton of milk to purchase, I hope this column comes to mind.
