Orchestra students excel at MPA

Twelve orchestra students earned superior ratings and Ian Barnett ’23 claimed a “superior with distinction” for their performances at the Florida Orchestra Association District 16 Solo/Ensemble Music Performance Assessment Feb. 1-2 at G. Holmes Braddock Senior High under orchestra director Jessica Carrasquillo.
Earning superiors in the Upper School were Ashlyn Cowgill ’19, J.P. Decker ’21 and Javier Garcon ’21. Claiming superiors in the Middle School were Arjun Badwal ’23, Francisco Gomez Rivas Vazquez ’24, Sirja Joeveer ’25, Christine Keedy Brown ’24, Mela Lew ’24, Camille Lugo ’24, Jackson McAliley ’23, Sofia Wolf ’23 and Evelyn Yu ’24.
 
Each student prepared a solo work to be performed in front of an adjudicator; they were judged in six different categories: tone (beauty, control), intonation, technique, interpretation, other factors (choice of music, stage presence, and appearance), and musical effect (artistry, fluency).
