Laptop camera cover wins Biz Challenge
Holly Steinberg '19 and Nicole Bremer '19 won the Sixth Annual RE Business Challenge on March 4 at the Pagoda with Steinberg's clear and persuasive pitch for CamBlock!, a sleek, movable cover for laptop cameras designed to thwart cyber-mischief. The pair will represent Ransom Everglades at the Innovate South Florida competition at Miami Dade College-Wolfson in April. Luisa Guarco '19, Makenzie Love '19 and Khushi Shah '19 finished second with SpoonAble, a design for an innovative spoon to help people with hand tremors.
The pair survived the final competition round from teacher Jen Nero's AP Macro/Microeconomics class. With Bremer absent, Steinberg explained the need for the product to combat computer-camera hacks. She demonstrated why her team's prototype produced by a campus 3D printer was superior to others on the market, and shared a marketing/production plan to win over judges Valerie Nahmad Schimel '95, Marcella McCarthy '01 and Michael Greenberg '79.
Guarco, Shah and Love pitched a product that was personal for Guarco, who was inspired to create it after watching her afflicted grandmother struggle to eat soup. They survived a final round of five projects. Each presenting group had five to seven minutes to tell their story, followed by a round of questions from the judges.
