Four seniors named National Merit Scholars

Makenzie Love '19, Anna Mistele '19, Margo Squire '19 and Valeria Vela '19 were named 2019 National Merit Scholarship winners, joining just 2,500 seniors nationwide to receive the distinction from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the organization announced May 8. The four seniors were selected from a pool of some 15,000 finalists in the 64th-annual National Merit Scholarship competition.
Corporations and colleges also sponsor National Merit Scholarships, but to earn the $2,500 award from the corporation itself puts Love, Mistele, Squire and Vela in an exclusive group. Ransom Everglades had 16 semifinalists and a number of commended students in this year's competition.
