RE speech and debate off to flying start

RE speech and debate students won three events at an early-season tournament in Fort Lauderdale and performed well at a national event at Yale University, getting the 2019-20 season off to a strong start.
At the Flying L tournament at Fort Lauderdale High on Sept. 21, Danny Jackson '21 placed first in humorous interpretation, Veronica Kerr '23 and Sophia Adams '23 placed first in novice public forum debate, and Kyle Ng '23 won in novice extemporaneous debate. Alex Dray '21 earned second in extemporaneous speaking, and Mather Davidson '22, second in informative speaking. Cecilia Granda-Scott '22 and Trent Mopsick '23 won fourth in novice public forum debate.

At the Yale University Sept. 12-16, Lucas Miner '20 advanced to the semifinals in extemporaneous speaking; Eva Tariko '22 and Dori Schurr '20 advanced to the double octofinals in public forum debate; and Noah Gold '22 and Zach Marcus '22 made it to the octofinals in public forum debate.

More than 40 RE students competed at the Fort Lauderdale tournament.
