Girls' volleyball wins district championship

The girls' volleyball team earned its second consecutive district title by defeating Riviera Preparatory School 3-1 in the Class 3A District 15 championship at Riviera on Oct. 17, then won two playoff contests to land in the regional final at Westminster Christian Nov. 5. The winner of that game advances to the state championship.
In the Class 3A Region 4A final, the 21-6 Raiders will face a Westminster Christian team that is undefeated at home (14-0) this year. The RE volleyball team, 5-1 on the road, defeated Florida Christian School and Divine Savior Academy in straight sets to advance to the regional championship game. 

In the regional semifinal, Dani Ortiz '21 led with 30 assists, two kills and seven digs; Mia Balestra '21 contributed 10 kills and 10 digs; and Sophia Antezana '20 totaled 10 kills, three assists and eight digs. In the regional quarterfinal, Juliana Williamson '22 contributed with seven kills and three blocks.

In the district title game, Balestra led with 15 kills, Ortiz contributed 41 assists and five aces, and Valentina Londono '22 chipped in 13 service points and three digs, helping the Raiders to a 25-19, 22-25, 25-15 and 28-26 victory.

Antezana collected 12 kills and Cameron Lindsey '21 added seven, helping the Raiders keep their playoff advance alive after winning in four sets against Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in the district playoff semifinals.

The Raiders have been led throughout the season by coach Amie Manke and lone seniors Antezana and Ana Sannia '20. The team – which also includes Carolina Signoret '22, Elisa Echarte '23, Carolina Gallagher '23, Kelli Miller '21, Verena Gonzalez '22, Carmela Ribadeneira '21 and Sofia Capote '22 (not pictured) – swarmed the court after the district title game victory, posing with the championship plaque.
