Juniors lead RE Speech and Debate

Alex Dray '21 and Danny Jackson '21 earned top-five finishes in a pair of national and state speech and debate events in recent weeks, winning early qualification to the prestigious Tournament of Champions next April in Lexington, Ky., and leading the RE Speech and Debate team under coach Kate Hamm.
Jackson finished second in Humorous Interpretation and Dray finished third in Extemporaneous Speaking at the Oct. 5-6 Nova Titan Invitational, a national tournament in Davie that serves as a qualifier for the Tournament of Champions. The pair also led RE at the Florida Blue Key Speech and Debate Tournament in Gainesville, Nov. 1-3. Jackson finished fourth in Humorous Interpretation and Dray claimed fifth in Impromptu Speaking.

In other notable results at the Blue Key tournament, Zoe San Martin '20 advanced to the semifinals of Congress; Mather Davidson '22 reached the quarterfinals in Informative Speaking; Alexandra Henriquez '22 reached the quarterfinals in Program Interpretation and Dramatic Interpretation; Alba Uriarte '22 reached the octofinals in Extemporaneous Speaking; Ryan Berkshire '23 advanced to the octofinals in Extemporaneous Speaking; Noah Gold '22 and Zach Marcus '22 were double octofinalists in Varsity Public Forum; Andre Joseph '22 and Amelia Fox '22, and Eva Tariko '22 and Dina Kaplan '22 were triple octofinalists in Varsity Public Forum. 

At the Oct. 12 Catholic Forensic League No. 1 at West Broward High School, a local tournament, RE had several impressive results. Davidson earned first place in Informative Speaking; Oliver Segal '23 and Sophia Adams '23 earned first in Novice Public Forum Debate; Cecilia Granda-Scott '22 and Veronica Kerr '22 won third in Novice Debate; Jessica Weinstein '23 claimed fifth in Dramatic Interpretation; Sophia Rubinstein '22 and Mateo Jolivert '21 scored fifth in Varsity Public Forum Debate; Joan Joseph '21 scored sixth in Program of Oral Interpretation; and Georgia Crosby '21 scored sixth in Informative Speaking.
