Lady Raiders Win Their First Game

The Girls JV began their 2019-20 season with a shutout win over LaSalle, 3-0.  The game started off with both teams able to establish possession in the opposing team's half.  First LaSalle then Ransom Everglades had the upper hand but neither created good scoring opportunities.  First year goalkeeper Kati Ortega '22 did record her first saves during this period.  Then right after the first water break with the Raiders applying good pressure, Bianca Perez '22 stole the ball and shot from 20 yards away.  The ball took a bounce and went through their goalie's legs into the net. The Raiders took the 1-0 lead into the half.

This was the first game of the season for both teams with each trying to figuring out what worked best regarding style of play, which positions suited individuals players.  After halftime adjustments the Raiders had the ball in the LaSalle end of the field for most of the second half.  After a few good rushes forward resulting in a few goal scoring opportunities, the ball got behind the LaSalle defense and Jessica Weinstein '22 ran onto it, then placed the ball into the corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead.  Our control of the game continued.  After the second water break, Ellie Dyke '21 got the ball out of a scramble, created space and ripped a ball into the far side of the goal.  Their goalie had no chance for a save.

It was an excellent way to start the season.  We play next on Monday, November 18 at Westminster Christian School, 4pm.
