Six qualify for national speech and debate event

Six RE speech and debate students earned bids to the Tournament of Champions in Lexington, Ky., in April during a qualifying event at Cypress Bay High on Nov. 9-10, giving Ransom Everglades eight national championship entrants at the halfway point of the season.
Mather Davidson '22, who placed second in Informative Speaking; Joan Joseph '21, who placed sixth in Program of Oral Interpretation; Zach Marcus '22 and Noah Gold '22, who advanced to the quarterfinals in Public Forum Debate; and Dori Schurr '20 and Nicole Rodriguez '22, who made it to the semifinals in Public Forum Debate, claimed Tournament of Champion bids. They joined RE's earlier qualifiers Alex Dray '21 and Danny Jackson '21 with berths at the Lexington championship. Meanwhile, Anya Dua '22 was recognized as top novice extemporaneous speaker at Cypress Bay.

At the Catholic Forensic League No. 2 in Miramar a week later, RE had a pair of top-three finishes: Eva Tariko '22 and Sophia Rubinstein '22 claimed first in varsity public forum, and Ana Martin '22 and Kati Ortega '22 finished second in duo interpretation. 

At the Glenbrooks Speech and Debate Tournament in Chicago Nov. 22-24, 
Alexandra Henriquez '22 reached the quarterfinals in dramatic interpretation and Dray advanced to the quarterfinals in extemporaneous speaking.
