JV Soccer Bounces Back with Dominant Win

On Wednesday, January 8 the girls JV soccer team soundly defeated the LaSalle Royal Lions, 7-0.  The team played their best game of the season passing the ball well, spreading out to use space and making their opponents chase them.  Ellie Dyke '21 opened the scoring off a feed from Lily Kaplan '22 with a well hit shot from just inside the 18 yard box.  Kaplan '22 scored one of her own next with a high shot when the ball popped free from a scramble 20+ yards from goal.  These two tallies provided the Raiders with a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Playing well and controlling possesion so that the game was played mostly in the LaSalle half raised the team's confidence and it showed in the second half.  The team continued to use the wide midfielders (Emma Granite '23, Barbie Hyland '23, Sophie Iacovelli '20)  to good effect.  Ellie Dyke '21 scored her second goal off a nice feed from Hyland '23.  The next goal was created by Daniela Pineros '21 using her signature move of stepping in front of an opposing forward, then dribbling and distributing to begin an offensive thrust.  She passed the ball to Bri Suarez '20 who hit a great shot in the upper right corner for a 4-0 lead.  In a near replay, Suarez scored again with another unsaveable strike after a give and go with Loriz Arrencibia '23.  After a LaSalle own goal, Arrencibia '23 finished the scoring on a break away for 7-0 score line.  This great win came from a comprehensive performance all over the field and playing as a team.

This was a much needed win after the previous day's loss.  The next game for the JV girls soccer team is Monday, January 13, 4pm at home against Westminster Christian School.
