RE robotics scores big twice in two weeks

Ransom Everglades robotics teams collected a host of titles at back-to-back tournaments in South Florida. The "Dark Matter" team of Alex Van Lidth '22, Andre Joseph '22, Max Vallone '22, Dashielle DeStefano '22, Jonah Bennett '21 and Felipe Clavijo '21 won major awards and scored top finishes at both events to lead RE.
Dark Matter won the Excellence Award and was named Tournament Champion Feb. 1 at the 2nd Annual Gateway Challenge Qualifier of Southwest Florida in Fort Myers, sharing that honor with another RE team: Luke Sahs '22, Max Swietelsky '21, Jordan Hoffman '21 and Sofia Miranda '23, winners of the Build Award. Both teams received bids to the Florida State Championship VEX Robotics Competition. Two other RE teams competing at the event advanced to the semifinals.

RE robotics coach and engineering teacher Bob DuBard also earned recognition – he was presented with the Volunteer Award for his stellar work with robotics events.

A week earlier, Dark Matter won the Design Award and a finals appearance at RoboSLAM IV, a VEX Robotics Competition at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition. At RoboSLAM IV, RE's “Buy-N-Large” team of Josh Buttrick '22, Joan Joseph '21, Dominique Smith '22, Charlotte Wang '21, Lucia Dahn '23 and Arjun Badwal '23 joined Dark Matter as a tournament finalist.
