A grand night with the RE band

Ransom Everglades Upper School Festival Concert offered a delightful combination of the usual: incredible talent, strong training and thoughtfully chosen music under performing arts director Jon Hamm. Three RE bands unveiled selections they've been preparing for upcoming festivals, and the audience at the Lewis Family Auditorium Jan. 31 offered its approval and appreciation. Photo Gallery
RE's Symphonic Band, Guitar Ensemble, RE Combo and Jazz Band performed eight selections they will perform at festivals in Coral Shores, South Dade and Philadelphia. The 55-member RE Combined Symphonic Band performed three original works by Henry Fillmore, Clare Grundman and Frank Erickson. The jazz combo and band performed music by Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Stanley Turrentine, Victor Schertzinger and Hoagy Carmichael.

The Guitar Ensemble featured music from J.S. Bach and Adam de la Halle, a 13th-century composer. Vocal music and rock classics from the '60s were also on the program with selections from McCartney and Jagger; Ana Martin '22 joined RE Performing Arts Chair Jon Alex Hamm to provide vocals for "Ruby Tuesday" and Brianna Suarez '20 sang "Hey Jude."
