Shake-A-Leg Miami a huge success

On Saturday January 25th, the upper school and middle school squads for RE Crew came together at Shake-A-Leg Miami in Coconut Grove to race the clock and fellow competitors over a variety of distances and formats on Concept2 ergometer rowing machines. This dry land "race" is a traditional part of winter training for most crew teams around the country and allows both individuals and teams to see how that winter training efforts have paid off.
 
Competitive Highlights included:
- Junior Upper School Coxswains Fahren Hatami and Alessia Gangone placed 1st and 3rd/17 overall in times of 2:00.8 and 2:04.8 over 500 meters to win gold and bronze medals
- Middle School Rower Santiago Sauceda placing 6th/64 overall in a time of 5:45.0 over 1500 meters
 
- Middle School Rower Gabriella Martinez placing 5th/25 overall in a time of 6:33.9 over 1500 meters
- Most if not all Middle School Rowers, boys and girls, came close to or beat their personal best times (PB's) over 1500 meters distance with many shattering their PB's
- Senior Asher Lieberman placing 8th/27 overall in a time of 6:47.0 over 2,000 meters
- Freshman Lightweight Malena Tewari placing 9th/22 overall in a time of 8:52.2 over 2,000 meters
 
- Sophomore Lightweight Phillip Craft placing 16th/33 overall in a time of 7:11.3 over 2,000 meters
 
- Sophomore Lightweight Novice Tobias Kaczka placing 18th/51 overall in a time of 7:45.9 over 2,000 meters
 
- Sophomore Amelia Fox placing 16th/26 overall in a time of 8:17.0 over 2,000 meters
- Freshman Lightweight Theodore Ma placing 22nd/51 overall in a time of 7:55.6 over 2,000 meters
- Many Upper School Rowers, particularly among the freshman, approached or exceeded their PB's
- Relay's saw 4 rowers racing 500 meters each for a total of 2,000 meters in the following categories: Girls Middle School 1st place, Boys Middle School 4th place, Girls Upper School 8th place and Boys Upper School 11th place
