RE students excel in Orange Bowl photo contest
Sebastian Hicks ’21 won the Judges Choice Award at the Junior Orange Bowl Photography Competition, as Ransom Everglades photography students claimed five of six first-place awards and 15 of 25 overall. More than 140 students from across Miami-Dade County entered the competition that concluded with the awards gala Feb. 8, 2020, at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition.
Hicks won the grand prize for his black-and-white photo of a water buffalo, and he also earned third place in the Portraiture category.
Ryan Sadler ’22 won first place in the category of Black and White and Richard Hanft ’21 claimed first in Photoshop and Manipulation; both students also led RE 1-2-3 sweeps in their categories. Lauren Holtz ’21 won first place in Zoo Miami (animals); Hanna Hicks ’21 in Portraiture; and Kira Oglesby ’22, Patterns in Our World.

The judging was blind, so the judges did not know which schools the students were from. A complete list of winners is below. Said RE photography teacher Matt Stock: “I could not be more proud of our students.”
