Jazz ensembles win Superior ratings

The RE Combo qualified for the state band competition for the 10th straight year with its performance at the Florida Bandmasters Association District 20 Jazz Music Performance Assessment Feb. 7. The RE Combo and RE Jazz Band each earned the highest rating of Superior at the assessment at Coral Shores High School.
The RE Combo was led by bassist Andres Soto '21 and tenor saxophonist and music director Connor Munroe '21. The group includes first-year member Austin Charlton '20, who performs on trombone and guitar, alto saxophonist Max Swietelsky '21, drummer Liam Malloy '20 and pianist Max Vallone '22.
 
The RE Jazz Band was guided by pianist Kiran Dasai '21 and included first-year members with drummer Nathan Gumenick '21 performing on bass. The group also featured Louis LaFontisee '21 on drums, Daniel Fisher '21 on alto sax and Jonah Bennett '21 on cornet.
 
Performers in the festival were assessed by top professionals in the jazz idiom who offered written and verbal comments on how to reach the next level of performance. The Florida Bandmasters Association State Solo and Ensemble Music Performance Assessment takes place March 26-28 in Broward County. 

RE jazz auditions for 2020-21 begin Feb. 20 with details on myCOMPASS. The RE jazz program is led by RE Performing Arts Department Chair Jon Hamm.
