Speech and Debate Team

Students qualify for nationals, excel at states

Thirtee Ransom Everglades’ speech and debate students qualified for the National Speech and Debate Tournament during a pair of district qualifiers in late February and early March. Meanwhile, a young team of RE speech and debate students excelled at the Florida Forensic League Varsity State Tournament.
Ten RE students – only one senior – advanced to final rounds of the varsity state tournament at Feb. 29-March 1 at Olympia High in Orlando. See full results below.

The national championship takes place in June in Albuquerque, N.M. Debate coach and faculty member Kate Hamm directed the RE qualifiers and helped organize the first qualifying tournament Feb. 22 at RE, which was originally scheduled for Miami Beach Senior High.
