Juniors benefit from Case Study Night

Ransom Everglades juniors and their parents received an inside look at the college admission process during the College Admission Case Study night, a virtual event that enabled families to work side-by-side with 10 college admission officials from around the nation to evaluate a handful of mock applications.
The April 27 event, put on by the Ransom Everglades College Counseling Office, was designed to help juniors and their families better understand the college admission landscape as they embark on their own college journeys.

The featured guests hailed from Babson College, Bucknell University, Case Western Reserve University, the University of Chicago, Davidson College, Florida State University, the University of Miami, University of Michigan, Tulane University and Villanova University. (See the list below.)

RE Director of College Counseling Claudia Jolivert welcomed families to start the evening. The students and their parents then broke into groups with the admission officials to review the applications of four faux students and decide whether to admit, deny or wait-list each one, They discussed the qualiity of applicants' test scores, grades, supplemental essays, demonstrated interest and other elements.

The night concluded with another full-group meeting in which the groups compared results and discussed their analyses. Students and their parents also had the opportunity to ask questions. During the Q and A, the college officials weighed in on the impact of COVID-19 on testing, visits and attrition in the fall, and they also responded to other questions about applications and students' portfolios.

The event represented just one part of a slate of virtual offerings for juniors and upper school students. Juniors are invited to join RE's Essay Writing Workshop for Rising Seniors at 9 a.m. on May 30, and the college counseling office also has enhanced its Resources page in myCOMPASS, been available for virtual office hours and begun offering a weekly class for juniors – in addition to continuing one-on-one virtual appointments.
