Catalyst editors go online during pandemic

When upper school student editors of The Catalyst newspaper realized the business shutdown caused by the pandemic would prevent them from obtaining a printed spring newspaper, they decided to take the paper online. The result is a gleaming new website populated with engaging and frequently updated stories.
Under the direction of advisors Matt Margini and Greg Cooper, the newspaper's editing team of Viviana Freyer '20, Kareena Rudra '20, Phoebe Beber-Frankel '20 and Liza Dill '21 worked on the new venture, which was unveiled in late May.

Check out the website to find a series of articles on how students and faculty adjusted to REmote RE, including a story on "The New Senior Experience" by Freyer, a story on athletes training over Google Meet by Danny Amron '21, and what RE students are doing to give back to their communities in quarantine by Beber-Frankel. There is also a story on the "Pickle Boys" by Ricky Andrade '21; a feature on longtime security guard Tammy Anthon by Daelyn Einhorn '20; and a story on departing faculty member Danielle Ellis by Alex Levya '20.

Readers will also find incisive news, features and opinion pieces on a host of complex issues, including tokenism in the classroom by Rudra, the need for LGBT+ history in RE's curriculum by Alex Prio-Touzet '21, and gentrification in Coconut Grove by Diego Duckenfield-Lopez '20.

The Catalyst also includes a arts section, featuring an interview with Perks of Being a Wallflower author Stephen Chbosky by Freyer.

The middle school also released its student newspaper, The Raider Report, and literary magazine, Little Inklings. You can find links to all of RE's student publications here.
