Upper school REmote Art Exhibition

Each year, Studio Art breaks away from traditional media of canvas, paint, paper and pencils to create a self-expressive piece of art using an alternative medium, material or base. In the past, students have done works of art on chairs, made a giant mosaic of Mona Lisa out of peas and beans (dubbed Frijolisa), adorned Earth globes, as well as reinterpreted masterpieces using glitter rather than paint. This year the students chose wooden skateboard blanks for their projects. 

Just as REmote School began, Studio Art 3 & 4 had just received the blanks and were in the stages of planning their designs. With the help of Blick Art Supply, the students received their own sets of acrylic paint, brushes and paint markers with which they could work on their skateboards remotely. Some chose a theme and carried it out on top of the board as well as the back. Some chose to create dramatically different sides for the skateboards. Some students plan to hang them in their college dorm rooms, while some will add wheels and ride them.

Ceramics classes
The ceramics students explored the elements of art (line, shape, space, value, color, contrast & texture). They also had the opportunity to explore and record their emotions and environments during this time of self-reflection. These drawings were created as part of their assignments during REmote School.

Photography
The virtual photo exhibition is a cross-section of work that students from photo one through advanced classes have been working on during the quarantine. Students have learned how to create beautiful images of stylized food photography in their own kitchens, the complexities of defuse lighting, and fictitious album covers in portraiture, amongst other things. The images curated here represent all of those projects. The students have been impressively resourceful and creative in their solutions to quarantine art projects. I am very proud of them all.
