Speech and debate competes in virtual events

The Ransom Everglades speech and debate team hasn’t allowed COVID-19 to slow it down, with members competing virtually in a number of national tournaments to open the 2020-21 school year and several advancing to final rounds. Three RE students – Sophia Rubinstein ’22 (sixth), Eva Tariko ’22 (eighth) and Nicole Rodriguez ’22 (10th) – finished in the top 10 in Public Forum speaker at the virtual Holy Cross Navy and Old Gold Debate Speech and Debate Exhibition Sept. 25-27. In the Duo Interpretation event, Rebecca Gotterer ’22 and Zoe Punjwani ’22 scored fifth place. 
Rubinstein and Tariko also teamed up to advance to the quarterfinals along with Cecilia Granda-Scott ’22 and Dina Kaplan ’22.

Dashiell DeStefano ’22 made it to the quarterfinals of Congressional Debate at the Yale Invitational Oct. 2-4. At the Nova Titan Invitational Oct. 10-11, David Dubovy ’22 advanced to the semifinals of Congressional Debate and Alexandra Henriquez ’22 reached the finals in Interpretation. Marco Zhao ’23 and Leticia Crosby ’23 advanced to the finals in JV Public Forum as Crosby earned the fifth-best speaker award.

At the Florida Blue Key Speech and Debate Tournament October 31, Jack Pollock '24 earned 11th in Novice Public Forum and Nicolas Imery '24 scored 18th place. Mather Davidson advanced to the quarterfinals of Informational Speaking.
