Seven Raiders will continue sports careers in college

Ransom Everglades honored seven senior athletes who intend to pursue their sports at Division I schools, recognizing them during a morning signing ceremony in the Anderson gymnasium on February 3. Lindsay Gould '21 committed to play soccer at Brown University; Helaina Harris '21, lacrosse at Northwestern University; and Daniela Ortiz '21, volleyball at Villanova. Sailors Hannah Bast '21 and Javier Garcon '21 committed to the University of Pennsylvania, Nicholas Echarte '21 to Tufts University, and Louis LaFontisee '21 to Tulane University.
Head of School Penny Townsend congratulated the student-athletes, and Assistant Director of Athletics Scott Berman recognized each one as they signed a letters of intent. Wearing school caps and jerseys, they assembled briefly for a photo.

"We want to thank you for your contributions to our community," Berman said. "You have earned the right to be up here through your dedication and countless hours of commitment to your craft. We wish each of you all the success in the world going forward and please know that your RE family will be watching proudly."

Gould, Harris and Ortiz were all named first-team All-Dade selections by the Miami Herald after their most recent completed seasons, and Harris and Ortiz both helped their teams to district titles. Gould also served as a placekicker on the undefeated football team in the fall, converting seven extra points.

The four sailors helped RE to a No. 1 ranking in the Southern Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association, and Echarte and LaFontisee were on the keelboat racing team that claimed the prestigious Mendleblatt Trophy in 2019. Bast, Garcon and LaFontisee contributed to the Raiders' third-place finish in the Interscholastic Sailing Association Team Racing Championship in 2019.
