Three rowers collect state titles

Mollie Forand '22 and Kathryn Serra '23 won the scholastic state title in the girls junior double as Thomas Segrera '23 earned the state title in the boys junior single at the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association Sculling Championships in Sarasota on April 10. Two weeks later, at the FSRA Sweep Championships in the same location, Forand and Serra won their second state title in the girls pair, coming from behind to win the 1,500-meter race.
In the sculling championship, all five of Ransom Everglades' teams posted top-five finishes; the event drew 356 competitors from 23 rowing clubs and 14 schools across Florida. RE's crew team, led by coach Tim McAllister, finished sixth overall among the competing schools. Besides winning the state scholastic title in sculling, Forund and Serra also finished third overall. Segrera earned ninth place overall in his event. All of the events concluded after the opening time trial because of inclement weather.

The boys freshman quad (James Brown Urmeneta '24, Santiago Sauceda '24, Alexander Tong '24 and Takeo Owens '24) finished fifth in the scholastic competition. The boys junior quad (Rogelio Munoz-Franco '23, Tobias Kaczka '22, Ryan Berkshire '23 and Colin Ehrling '23) placed third. The girls lightweight quad (Ana Gonzalez '23, Malena Tewari '23, Ysatis Jadotte '23 and Isabella Leiser '23) finished fourth.
