Johnson '12 eyes the Olympics as a platform

Ashleigh Johnson '12, who won one Olympic gold medal in water polo in 2016 and is seeking another this summer in Tokyo, said she feels a sense of responsibility to speak out against injustice. She told USA Today in a story that appeared June 1: “I think it's really important that we as athletes take the stage that we have and use it to express our beliefs, and support the people who aren't supported in our society and speak out against the people who are oppressors. I just think it's a really important part of having a platform as an athlete.’’ While at Ransom Everglades, Johnson won a state title in the 50 freestyle in swimming and led the girls' water polo team to four state championships.
