MS student wins National History Bee

Parker Jelke ’27 won the National History Bee for the sixth grade, leading a host of top performers from Ransom Everglades at the championships in Arlington, Va., on Labor Day weekend. Leo Fein ’23,  Daniel Figueroa ’24 and Javier Kumar ’22 scored top-five finishes in the high school divisions as Jelke topped 45 qualifiers to become the second RE student in two years to win a national history bee title. The September 3-6 championship had been rescheduled from last June.
Fein and Figueroa finished third and fifth, respectively, in the junior high division of the National History Bee, and Fein also earned third place in the high school division of the International Geography Bee., as Figueroa claimed fourth in the JV division of that event. Both also finished in the top 15 of the JV-division of the U.S. History Bee (Fein, 12th; Figueroa, 14th). 

Figueroa was the seventh-grade champion of the National History Bee in 2019.

Kumar finished fourth in the high school division of the National History Bee – the high school events took place remotely.
 
Chase Dubovy ’25 finished seventh in the eighth-grade National History Bee, 10th in the eighth-grade U.S. Academic Bee and ninth in the eighth-grade U.S. History Bee.

Lucas Gonzalez ’27
competed in the sixth-grade National History Bee, finishing 22nd overall. Tyler Marcus ’26 finished 16th in the seventh-grade U.S. History Bee, and 29th in the seventh-grade National History Bee.

The middle school students are coached by RE middle school history and social sciences coordinator Joe Mauro; the high schoolers train under the direction of faculty member Branly Fontaine.
