Three seniors named National Merit Scholars

Nikhil Kumar '22, Rylan Sadler '22 and Sabrina Shipley '22 were among 2,500 seniors nationwide named 2022 National Merit Scholars on May 11 as part of the 67th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The students were selected from some 15,000 finalists and will receive $2,500 scholarships.

Students selected for this award were judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.
The scholarship recipients were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who considered each student's academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from the Preliminary SAT (PSAT); contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by each finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official.
