Seniors prepare for college with wellness seminars

Ransom Everglades seniors participated in two required health and wellness seminars designed to prepare them for college in the fall. The seminars, which took place late in the second semester, addressed sexual consent and hazing.
In April, they heard from health educator health educator Shafia Zaloom, author of Sex, Teens & Everything in Between, during a virtual seminar, “Consent: Healthy Sexuality and Relationships.” That session was followed by smaller, in-person group sessions when Zaloom came to Ransom Everglades. A San Francisco-based health educator, parent, consultant and author, Zaloom develops curricula and trainings for schools across the country.

In May, John Tsialas and Flavia Tomasello led a frank and educational talk with seniors on college life and hazing at the Posner Lecture Hall in the Fernandez STEM Center. Their son Antonio Tsialas ’19 died after a hazing event during his freshman year in college. The couple has been deeply involved with RE since their son’s death, creating the Antonio Tsialas '19 Leadership Endowment Fund in 2021.

Both events were for the Class of 2022 only.
