RE sweeps Scholar Athlete of Year honors

Ransom Everglades student-athletes Juan Rivera ’22 and Sabrina Shipley ’22 were named 2021-22 Miami-Dade Scholar Athletes of the Year, headlining a host of scholastic athletic recognitions announced the week of June 5. A dozen RE student-athletes – including six water polo players – earned first-team all-county honors for spring sports from the Miami Herald as more than three dozen RE students were recognized.

Rivera, who was also named a first-team all-county selection in soccer for winter sports, is a defensive midfielder who helped lead the Raiders to a runner-up finish in the state. Find the Herald story highlighting him here.

Shipley, who helped her team to the state semifinals in water polo, was also named the Herald’s Player of the Year for water polo, and she was among 24 student-athletes named to the Florida High School Athletic Association’s 28th Annual Florida Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team. She received a $1,700 check for that honor during a June 6 banquet in Gainesville. Find the Herald story highlighting Shipley here.

Girls’ water polo coach Eric Lefebvre, who has led RE's girls' team to 16 straight district titles and multiple state championships in his tenure at RE, was named Girls’ Water Polo Coach of the Year. Find the story highlighting him here

Ransom Everglades was also named the Boys' Major Sports Winner by the Herald on June 13 for finishing as the state runner-up for soccer in Class 3A; going 8-1 in football as an independent; reaching the regional tournament in basketball' and winning a team district title in track and field. Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
