Eight rising seniors receive Bowden fellowships
Eight rising seniors are launching summer research projects as the latest recipients of Dan Leslie Bowden Fellowships in the Humanities at Ransom Everglades. Ian Barnett '23, Lucia Rose Dahn '23, Olivia Drulard '23, Sofia Gudino Ruffa '23, Jack Harris '23, Kyle Ng '23, Mason Signorello '23 and Liv Steinhardt '23 were selected to pursue work in subjects ranging from classical music composition to cryptocurrency.
The students applied last fall for the prestigious fellowships, which offer stipends and faculty mentorship to pursue their passions in the humanities. The fellowship program was created in honor of revered English teacher Dan Leslie Bowden 2016 by Jeffrey Miller ’79, who provided the seed funding for the Dan Leslie Bowden Endowment in the Humanities. Since then, 52 students have been named Bowden fellows, given the opportunity to explore what makes us human through their summer work.

Innovations in Composition Pedagogy: Encouraging Expression through Classical Music. Ian Barnett '23 will work to create a curriculum for teaching young children the art of composition.
Facilitating the Art of Storytelling: Why Encourage a Culture of Creative Writing. Lucia Rose Dahn '23 will examine the impact of summer creative writing programs.
Equity in Menstrual Hygiene Management and Education Awareness. Olivia Drulard '23 will explore equity issues in providing education and access to menstrual hygiene.
Value in Society. Sofia Gudino Ruffa '23 will study cryptocurrency and explore what gives currency value.
Operation Pedro Pan: The Jewish Experience. Jack Harris '23 will do historical research on the mass exodus of children from Cuba.
Seeking the “Human” in Reimagined Mythology. Kyle Ng '23 will write his own series of short stories exploring the appeal of myths.
The Soul of a Small Town. Mason Signorello '23 will travel to Maine to examine the ideal of small-town life.
Glastonbury, Liv Steinhardt '23 will travel to England to explore the multi-faith tradition in this town.
