RESD among the top 20 programs in the nation

Ransom Everglades' speech and debate team was named one of the top 20 programs in the nation at the 2022 National Speech & Debate Tournament in Louisville, Ky., June 12-17 as five just-graduated students earned top-10 finishes in their events: Noah Gold '22 and Zach Marcus '22 finished eighth in Public Forum; Ceci Granda-Scott '22 and Nicole Rodriguez '22 claimed 10th in Public Forum; and Andre Joseph '22 earned 10th speaker of the tournament honors in World Schools Debate.
Besides receiving the Debate School of Excellence award given to the top 20 programs in the United States, Ransom Everglades achieved other impressive results under coach Kate Hamm at the national championship that attracted 6,000 qualifiers in 24 events.
 
Luca Campiani '22, Amelia Fox '22, Ian Fox '24, Joseph and Varun Raju '24 finished in the top 32 among 170 teams in World Schools Debate, which included more than 680 students. More than 250 teams competed in Public Forum. Alexandra Henriquez '22 placed in the top 32 in Program of Oral Interpretation and top 32 in Prose Interpretation. She received a trophy for having qualified for the national championships all four years of high school. 
 
"It was a great week overall and the younger students who competed had an incredible opportunity to see what 'awesome' looks like," Hamm said. "They are already getting excited for next year!"
