Raiders roll in opening night victory over St. Brendan

Senior Jackson Pegg '23, making his first career start was sensational throwing for 252 yards and five touchdown passes to lead the Raiders to a 34-14 victory over previously undefeated St. Brendan High School. Seniors Gabe Menendez de Alencar '23, Brendan Dyke '23, AJ Srebnick '23, Ryan Bienstock '23 and freshman Juan Velazco '26 had touchdown receptions in the win. Defensively, the Raiders held St. Brendan to 80 passing yards and 3-11 (27%) on third down conversions. Junior linebackers Michael Kaye '24, and Jordan Gonzalez '24 had strong games combining for double digit tackles. In front of a packed house the Raiders fed off the emotion of the crowd as they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a 25 yard touchdown pass from senior Jackson Pegg '23 to freshman Juan Velazco '26. The second quarter saw each team score a touchdown leading to a 14-7 halftime lead for the Raiders. The third quarter opened with a five minute drive that culminated with a beautiful pass from senior Jackson Pegg '23 to fellow senior tight end AJ Srebnick '23 to extend the Raider leader to 14. The Raiders would use strong defense and timely offense to finish the game with a 34-14 victory to move to 1-0 on the year. The Raiders will get back to the practice field today as they begin preparations for Friday's game against Somerset Academy (Pembroke Pines) at Robert E. Walker Field. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
