Swimmers claim district championships
The RE boys' swimming team won a district championship and a pair of sophomores earned individual titles at the Florida High School Athletic Association 1A District 12 Championships at the Ansin Aquatic Center. Kiera Rampersad '25 won the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, helping the girls' team to second place overall at the Oct. 25 event, and Ethan Sullivan '25 topped the field in the 200 freestyle. Both also earned relay medals.
Besides her first-place finishes in the 100 fly (57.16 seconds) and 100 breast (1 minute, 6.40 seconds), Rampersad also helped RE to a second place in the 200 medley relay along with Sophia Linfield '26, Marella Rebessi '24 and Carmen Sanchez-Tembleque Wood '23, and a third place in the 400 freestyle relay with Linfield, Sanchez-Tembleque Wood and Chloe Jimenez '26.
Sullivan finished the 200 free in 1:53.56, earned second place in the 500 free (5:03.91) and led the Raiders to second in the 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Victor Perez '23, Coren O'Brien '23 and Nohan Gomez '24.
Alec Garcia-Caceres '23 finished third in the 200 individual medley (2:09.70). Gomez finished second in the 100 backstroke (55.19) and 100 fly (54.04). Perez claimed third place in the boys' 100 freestyle (52.86), edging teammate Jay Holly '26 by .03 seconds.
Both teams were led by coach Franz Huggins.
