Three musicians receive all-state honors, others recognized

Three RE musicians – Simone Carrasco '27, Christine Keedy Brown '24 and Leah Maduro '23 – were selected to perform with prestigious all-state music ensembles at the annual Florida Music Education Association convention in January in Tampa. Meanwhile more than three dozen RE middle and upper school students excelled during the Florida Bandmasters Association District 20 Solo/Ensemble Music Performance Assessment Nov. 4-5, and soloists Andrew Gedde '25 and Sofia Rakhimi '25 qualified for the FBA State Solo and Ensemble, which will take place this spring.
Gedde earned a superior with distinction for performing from memory. The students performed under music directors Jon Hamm, Cathi Leibinger and Scott O'Donnell and RE Director of Arts Shawn Costantino.

Carrasco, who plays the tenor sax, was selected for the 2023 Florida Music Education Association Middle School Honor Band. Keedy, who plays the viola, was selected for the FMEA High School Orchestra, and Maduro, a french horn player, for the FMEA High School Honor Band.

The RE Brass Quintet has performed as a group for four years but were unable to compete at the assessment because of illness. The members are Nico Sosa '23, trumpet; Nicky Goldberg '23, trumpet; Maduro, french horn; Sebastian Daire '23, trombone; and Christian Sosa '23, tuba.
