Sixth grader wins Middle School Spelling Bee

Lily Kingdon '29 correctly spelled Sikhism and thurible to win the Middle School Spelling Bee Nov. 14 and advance to the 83rd annual Miami Herald Spelling Bee in March 2023. Lucas Antia '29 finished second, stumbling on urad, as the two sixth graders excelled in an event that started with 33 students. 
The bee finalists were Antia, Benjamin Brandrick-Morris '29, Austyn Doris '28, Kingdon and Ethan Moskovitz '27, who were challenged with words that included Azores, pell-mell, Leander, counterfeit and fumatorium. The event was organized and executed by faculty member Jody Salzinger.
