Children enjoy a festive and fun St. Alban's Day
Hundreds of young school children were escorted around RE’s decked-out campuses by doting, spirited and festively dressed RE students for the annual winter festival known as St. Alban’s Day. After a two-year absence because of the pandemic, the traditional holiday carnival that originated some 50 years ago at the Everglades School for Girls returned on Dec. 9 with the classic elements: visits with Santa Claus, polar express train rides, face painting, snow and bubble makers, a petting zoo, cookie decorating, Santa letter-writing and more.
About 125 students from the St. Alban’s Child Enrichment Center visited the upper school, as some 300 children from Holmes Elementary, Santa Clara Elementary, Wheatley Elementary and Tucker Elementary visited the middle school. All were greeted by smiling groups of students who made sure they sampled the many fun activities on both campuses.
At the upper school, Santa Claus arrived on a fire truck; at the middle school, the children enjoyed wandering through an indoor winter wonderland that featured a snow machine. At the end of the morning, children moved to the Lewis Family Auditorium at the upper school – after receptionist Monique Regis announced on the loudspeaker that Santa had headed back to the North Pole – for a magic show and performances by the RE dance team and RE singers.
Faculty member Jenny Carson '03 and sophomore advisors helped sophomores lead the event at the upper school; as is the tradition, the 10th graders organized activities, handled decorations and assembled backpacks for the children. At the middle school, faculty member Cathi Leibinger served as Chief Elf; she was assisted by Ali Fisher and many other faculty.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
