Junior runner leads RE all-county selections

Cross country runner David “Chuli” Serra ’24 was named a co-Cross Country Runner of the Year and earned first-team all-county recognition from the Miami Herald, which also honored more than two dozen other Raider fall-sport athletes in its annual awards. Five student-athletes earned second-team recognition: Golfers Kobe Lopez ’23, Jackson Langer ’24 and Jesse Hellring ’25; volleyball player Julia Lewkowitz ’25; and cross country runner Sophia Linfield ’26.
Eight RE athletes garnered third-team honors and 17 received honorable mention.

Serra led the boys’ cross country team to its first district championship in four years as he also captured the individual title in the Class 2A District 8 championships with a time of 16 minutes 5.77 seconds in the 5,000 meters. He dropped nearly 39 seconds from that time with his second-place finish at the state meet in 15:27 – the best finish by any South Florida runner in any division. Serra also won a pair of individual titles during the spring 2022 track and field season in the 800 and 1,600 meters.
