Six students win Gold Key awards; dozens more honored
Six Ransom Everglades students – Chloe Alfonso '24, Natasha do Valle '23, Andrew Gedde '25, Nicolas Imery '24, Parker Martorella '23 and Nicolas Maynulet '23 – each won a prestigious Gold Key in The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Regional Competition for 2023, a distinction that advances them to the national round of the annual competition sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. RE students also claimed 10 Silver Keys and 28 Honorable Mentions, and many earned multiple awards in the competition honoring excellence in various forms of writing, photography, ceramics and multiple art styles.
Alfonso, who won a Gold Key for Short Story writing, also earned a Silver Key for Science Fiction and Fantasy and two Honorable Mentions. Along with the Gold Key for Ceramics & Glass, Martorella also earned a Silver Key and Honorable Mention in that category. Sylvie Malvezzi '27 earned a pair of Silver Keys for Poetry and Short Story.
The Gold Key winners are students of faculty members Katherine Bufkin, Jorge Guzman, Matthew Helmers and Matt Stock. The regional winners were announced in late January, and the national competition takes place in March. See the list of winners below.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida. Ransom Everglades School produces graduates who "believe that they are in the world not so much for what they can get out of it as for what they can put into it."
