Ajagbe '17 best in the nation, girls' track excels

Anne Gutierrez '17 and Debbie Ajagbe '17 won gold medals at the 2017 Sam Burley Hall of Fame Invitational at Tropical Park March 3-4, leading the girls' track and field team to fourth place overall among 26 teams from Florida. Less than a week later, Ajagbe set a personal best while launching the nation's best throw in discus so far this season.
At the Burley meet, Gutierrez won the pole vault with a jump of 10 feet, 9 inches and Ajagbe, the discuss with a throw of 158-5½. Jatana Folson '19 contributed a second-place finish in the 400-meter finals (56.52 seconds) and Ajagbe also got second in the shotput with a throw of 40-9¾.

At the Belen Meet March 7 at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, Ajagbe managed a nation's best heave of 167-¾, which would have been sixth-best in the nation among high school girls in 2016. The girls are coached by Robert "Doc" Crabtree.
