Mr. Bowden delivers annual holiday reading

Legendary former faculty member Dan Leslie Bowden delivered his annual reading of Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory" with customary grace and charm to an appreciative crowd of RE friends, alumni, faculty and trustees on Dec. 9. Mr. Bowden received a standing ovation for his first reading outside of the school's grounds. Mr. Bowden claimed his performance was not on par with previous readings, but that opinion was resoundingly dismissed by his admirers and friends. The theater was, indeed, filled with both. As Mr. Bowden noted before diving into his 1950s copy of Capote's work: "The part of this, to tell the truth, that I always liked best, was talking to my friends – and that is who you are."

Mr. Bowden is in his 62nd year at Ransom Everglades, where he taught English for decades. He was introduced by Head of School Penny Townsend, whom he now serves as Advisor to the Head of School.
